First Aid For Businesses

by Claire Ward

First aid supplies are essential to every business, especially since accidents can happen to anyone at anytime. First let's review exactly what makes up a good first aid supply.

  • Band-aids, wrap bandages, butterfly bandages, and medical tape. Small cuts and scrapes can be covered by band-aids, while deeper or wider cuts can be sealed with butterfly bandages. Elastic wrap bandages are useful for covering a wound or blister or providing support to sprained arms, legs, hands, and feet.
  • Gauze, cotton balls, tape, and towelettes. These are all needed in the event of cleaning and covering up an injury. Tape is essential for holding bandages in place.
  • Scissors, tweezers and a thermometer. Scissors may be needed to cut bandages or tape, while tweezers can be used to remove splinters and ticks. Thermometers are crucial since they are the most reliable way to check a person for a fever.
  • Antibiotic cream, antiseptic solution, hand sanitizer, and gloves. Antibiotic cream should be placed over minor cuts and abrasions to prevent infection and relieve irritation. Antiseptic solution is used to disinfect certain injuries or sanitize instruments. When you begin and finish dressing a wound, use hand sanitizer. Also, be prepared to wear disposable gloves during treatment of another's wound to avoid contact with another person's blood and body fluids.
  • Pain relievers, antihistamines, laxatives, antacids, burn relief cream or spray, and epinephrine pen. These are ways to medicate after a first aid emergency. In the case of allergic reactions, antihistamine and prescribed epinephrine injector are highly important and may even save a life.

Why Businesses Need First Aid

Injuries can happen at any workplace. This may be more obvious in some more than others. For example, a deli shop that uses lots of knives may lead to employees cutting themselves, or employees may burn themselves with hot water or coffee at a cafe. You may not think there is much need for first aid in, say, a calm office environment. However, workers may hurt themselves with scissors or staplers, and a bad fall might happen anywhere. If you work in landscaping or some outdoor type of business, it pays to be prepared for serious allergic reactions. In order to protect employees, always have first supplies near at hand.

Businesses First Aid Solutions

Businesses can order first aid supplies online from medical equipment suppliers. The cost incurred by purchasing is an investment that is well worth it, since medical supplies can do much to help employees. First aid kits are a good start. You should have several on hand at any place of business. Any important supplies not included in the kits can be separately purchased and stored in a mini locker or drawer in a safe and accessible location.  For more information about packing a first aid kit, contact a business such as First Aid 2000

About Me

Protect Your Health

A few years ago, my father visited a dermatologist for the first time in his life. During this visit, he was diagnosed with several skin cancers. Thankfully, my dad’s dermatologist expertly removed these cancerous spots. If you’ve haven’t visited a dermatologist before, consider doing so sooner rather than later. Many forms of skin cancer are completely treatable if they’re detected early. Besides seeing a dermatologist, you should inspect your skin for any changes regularly. This is especially important if you have numerous moles on your body. On this blog, I hope you will discover ingenious tips to help you protect your health. Enjoy!
