No matter how well you eat and how much you exercise, sometimes you just can get rid of excess belly fat. Now, thanks to an FDA-approved technology, you can freeze those fat cells away with a process called CoolSculpting. Here's what you need to know.
How Does CoolScupting Work?
Fat cells are frozen with a special tool that use cold air without damaging the skin. The frozen fat cells eventually die and are eliminated by the body.
How Long Does CoolSculpting's Effects Last?
Once the cells are dead and eliminated, they cannot come back. While poor diet can cause obesity again, the areas that have been treated will not be fat repositories. CoolSculpting removes some of the fat cells, making the effects permanent.
Is CoolSculpting The Answer To Obesity?
No. CoolSculpting won't necessarily cause weight loss. It's not an alternative for obese people considering things like a gastric bypass to help with weight loss. Instead, it is used for people who have pockets of fat that noticeably bulge in areas such as the abdomen.
What Areas Of The Body Can CoolSculpting Be Done On?
In addition to the abdomen, CoolSculpting can be done in the United States on the thighs, the back, such as the fat pockets that frequently form under the bra area, the upper arms, and under the buttocks.
Does CoolSculpting Hurt?
No. CoolScuplting is noninvasive, and it isn't surgery. A special applicator delivers extremely cold energy to the area being worked on. You will feel this cold sensation, but it will not hurt. After a few minutes of treatment, the area becomes numb from the intense cold. When the procedure is finished, the area is massaged, and during this time, you may feel some tingling as the skin comes back to body temperature.
Is Any Downtime Required After CoolSculpting?
No. Because CoolSculpting is noninvasive, you can resume your normal activities as soon as you walk out of the clinic.
How Long Does It Take To See Results From CoolSculpting?
You may begin seeing results a few weeks after treatment. However, it takes 4-6 months for all of the fat cells to die off and be shed by the body. The technician will show you photos of other patients who have had CoolSculpting at your initial appointment. This will give you a better idea of what to expect.
How Many CoolSculpting Sessions Are Required?
Depending on the area being worked on, you may need only one session or you may need several to achieve the desired results.
